SIGHTS FROM AN OXFORD WALK
SIGHTS FROM AN OXFORD WALK
Earth sings a ballad
grey English skies rain, mourning
the lone west side boy.
II
A sly fox is trapped
in the yard of a college
I glimpse his mourning.
III
How did you get there,
among the whitest of swans?
A duck, out of place.
IV
You mounted a horse,
to be forever painted
on what would kill you.
V
You doffed your black helm
yelling at the crystal sea
a mourning black knight.
VI
Face red from dark rum
singing to the union jack
of a dying queen.
