Mediation on When we Saunter
Mediation on When we Saunter:
We walk, sometimes in silence, other times we clammer loudly
the garbage trunk smells of trash and winter’s waste.
We walk; the sun shines on us as we ask each other questions
about art and existence—we come into clearings
the smell of dog urine seeps from the lawns and into our noses.
Our talks are disinterested, yet so intrinsically beautiful
we illuminate as we mediate on the thoughts of what is graceful.
We mediate on the smell of urine, the sound of the garbage truck;
we mediate on the philosophy of Heidegger, the bitter taste of grapefruit.
Our mediation is bounded up in our sauntering; we saunter as the cold winter
breeze brings chills to our noses. We mediate on the masks we wear;
we mediate on song, we mediate on Jesus, we mediate on the American world
we mediate on objectivity, we mediate on subjectivity, we mediate on contemplation.
