ODE TO AN EMPTY BOTTLE OF JOSE CUERVO
ODE TO AN EMPTY BOTTLE OF JOSE CUERVO
It is night—
I delude memories
by pushing them away—
I find myself in love with a girl,
she told me not to drink so big
that loving her lasts until tomorrow .
I take a sip from a tea cup
we’ve turned into a tequila shot glass,
I take two more sips, kiss the night
I love under the starry girl’s eyes.
Tonight, we have sex to 70’s funk
tomorrow you will flee to the city—
a stronghold where you sleep
on a bean bag. I’ll be hungover,
bring you flowers you’ll be gone for good.
I’ll be left with memories of an empty
tequila bottle, said I loved you, meant it.
I delude myself by drinking away a memory of a dream.
